Ilona’s raku pots are built using the coiling techniques that she learned while working with Somali and Sudanese potters. She employs simple pattern sequences to interact with the 3D form in a dynamic but harmonious way. Through raku firing she achieves a fusion between the pattern and the finely balanced form.
